Overview

Truth or Dare – Dirty is a party game designed for adults looking to create fun, engaging, and memorable group experiences. Over the course of approximately one year, I worked on the product as GTM's in-house designer, contributing to multiple design iterations, feature additions, and UX improvements as the app evolved after launch.

The app has since surpassed 1 million downloads across the App Store and Google Play.

Problem & Goal

Party games often suffer from repetitive gameplay, confusing navigation, or lack of long-term engagement, causing users to abandon the experience after only a few sessions. GTM wanted to build a premium Truth or Dare experience that felt polished, intuitive, and highly replayable while appealing to different types of groups and occasions.

The goal was to design an experience that minimized friction before gameplay, encouraged longer play sessions, and made discovering game modes, categories, and premium content effortless. Throughout development, the product continuously evolved based on internal feedback, user behavior, and business priorities.

Process & Approach

Product Discovery

Worked closely with the GTM product team throughout the product lifecycle to understand business goals, prioritize features, and continuously improve the user experience.

Reviewed user feedback, store reviews, and internal discussions to identify opportunities for increasing engagement, retention, and conversion.

Analyzed competing party games to understand successful interaction patterns, monetization strategies, and onboarding approaches.

UX Strategy

Designed user flows that reduced the time between opening the app and starting a game, ensuring users could begin playing within seconds.

Focused on balancing accessibility for first-time users with flexibility for returning players through intuitive navigation and clearly structured game modes.

Iterated on premium feature discovery to improve visibility without interrupting gameplay.

Wireframing & Prototyping

Created wireframes and interactive prototypes to explore different navigation structures, game setup flows, and premium experiences.

Validated design decisions through multiple internal iterations before implementation, refining layouts as new features were introduced during development.

UI Design

Designed a playful yet modern visual language that matched the app's energetic personality while remaining easy to navigate during social situations.

Created interfaces for game setup, category selection, gameplay, achievements, premium features, and settings while maintaining visual consistency across the product.

Optimized the interface for both Android and iOS to provide a consistent cross-platform experience.

Iteration & Continuous Improvement

Unlike a traditional one-time project, the app evolved over approximately one year through multiple releases.

Worked on new features, interface refinements, visual improvements, and usability enhancements based on product priorities and ongoing feedback, ensuring the experience became increasingly polished over time.

Solution

The final product delivers a streamlined and engaging party game experience that prioritizes quick access to gameplay while encouraging long-term engagement through variety and progression.

Key improvements included:

Fast Game Setup — Reduced friction by simplifying player setup and allowing users to jump into gameplay within moments.

Organized Game Modes — Structured different categories and game experiences into a clear, easy-to-browse system that accommodates different group sizes and occasions.

Consistent Visual System — Established a cohesive interface and component library that remained scalable as new features and content packs were introduced.

1M+ Downloads — The app surpassed one million downloads across Android and iOS, demonstrating strong market adoption.

The project demonstrates how continuous product design, rather than a single redesign, can significantly improve both user experience and business outcomes over time. Working closely with GTM throughout the product's evolution allowed design decisions to adapt alongside user needs, resulting in a polished product that achieved over 1 million downloads across both major mobile platforms.
