ALMA AI Dating App

Overview

ALMA AI Chat is an AI-powered companion and dating app designed to create meaningful, personalized conversations through intelligent virtual characters. Over the course of approximately one year, I led the product design, shaping the app from concept through continuous feature development, interface improvements, and product iterations.

As Lead Designer, I was responsible for designing the core user experience, introducing new features, refining existing interactions, and ensuring a cohesive visual language as the product evolved.

Problem & Goal

Many AI chat applications focus primarily on text conversations while offering limited personalization, repetitive interactions, and interfaces that fail to create an emotional connection with users. The challenge was to design an experience that felt engaging, intuitive, and immersive while making advanced AI interactions approachable for a broad audience.

The goal was to create a product that encouraged meaningful conversations, simplified discovery of AI companions, and supported long-term engagement through intuitive navigation, personalization, and continuously evolving features.

Product Discovery

Collaborated closely with product stakeholders throughout development to define new features, prioritize improvements, and align design decisions with both user needs and business objectives.

Reviewed user feedback and internal product discussions to identify opportunities for improving usability, engagement, and retention.

Analyzed competing AI companion and conversational AI products to understand emerging interaction patterns, onboarding strategies, and monetization approaches.

UX Strategy

Designed user flows that minimized friction from onboarding to starting conversations, allowing users to connect with AI companions quickly and naturally.

Focused on creating intuitive navigation while balancing multiple product areas including character discovery, chat experiences, subscriptions, and personalization.

Continuously refined interaction patterns as new AI capabilities and product features were introduced.

Wireframing & Prototyping

Created wireframes and interactive prototypes to explore conversation flows, onboarding experiences, profile customization, and feature interactions.

Iterated on multiple concepts before implementation, validating layouts and simplifying complex user journeys as the product expanded.

UI Design

Designed a modern, emotionally engaging interface that complemented the conversational nature of the product while maintaining clarity and accessibility.

Created scalable interface components and visual systems that supported rapid product growth and consistent experiences across new features.

The project demonstrates how continuous product design and close collaboration can shape a rapidly evolving AI product. As Lead Designer, I was responsible for driving the overall user experience, introducing new features, and refining the product over time to create a cohesive, engaging, and scalable AI companion platform.

Below is an example of integration of app flow into website so the users can create their own AI persona directly from web and continue to app via backend call.

Besides this, I worked on design and development of website for this project too, with the help of Claude.
